TAP:  Tap is a form of dance characterized by using the sound of one’s tap shoes hitting the floor as a percussive instrument. As such, it is also commonly considered to be a form of music. Two major variations on tap dance exist: rhythm (Jazz) tap and Broadway tap. Broadway tap focuses more on the dance, and is widely performed as a part of musical theater. Rhythm tap focuses more on musicality, and practitioners consider themselves to be a part of the jazztradition.  SCDPAC offers both styles within our classes.  Levels beginning through advance.  Must be 7 years and older.

JAZZ:   Jazz dancing is a form of dance that showcases a dancer’s individual style and originality.  Jazz dancing is energetic and fun, consisting of unique moves, fancy footwork, big leaps and quick turns. To excel in jazz, dancers need a strong background in ballet as it encourages grace and balance.  Each class starts with a warm up, center floor work & across the floor combinations.  Jazz is a combination of a variety of styles of dance: ballet, African dance, Musical Theater, Modern, and social dances. Jazz dance has a firm technique and strength base, allowing for individualized movement. Jazz is a great form of dance for any age, developing strength and flexibility. Students of jazz are strongly encouraged to study ballet simultaneously for the best possible jazz dance experience.

LYRICAL:  Lyrical dance style has its primary basis in ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom and airier aspects of jazz, contemporary and modern dance. It is typically considered a sub-category of jazz and/or contemporary dance, the latter itself being an emerging category. Lyrical dance is expressive, simultaneously subtle and dynamic, focused on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. It is a combination of intricate, highly technical, and pedestrian/naturalistic moves.  Lyrical will focus on bodylines, balance, and sustained extensions.  Must have previous ballet experience.  Students of lyrical are strongly encouraged to study ballet and Jazz simultaneously for the best possible lyrical dance experience.  Levels beginning through advance.  Must be 7 year and older and must have instructors approval.

HIP HOP:  Hip-Hop is a fast-paced and exciting class that introduces students to intricate popular movements to hip-hop beats and lyrics. The class may include breaking, popping, and locking. Hip-Hop is a great aerobic workout that develops strength and flexibility. Hip-Hop is constantly changing, and new styles are regularly incorporated into classes.  Levels beginning through advance.  Must be 5 year and older.

BREAKDANCE (B-BOY):  B-boying, often called “breakdancing”, is a popular style of street dance that was created and developed as part of the Hip Hop culture.   Dancers will learn the basic four primary elements that form breaking. These include toprock, downrock, power moves, and freezes/suicides.  Beginning through advance levels.  Must be 7 year and older and enrolled in Hip Hop classes.

TUMBLING:  Acrobatic movements are combined with dance steps as students learn the fundamentals of movement and timing with tumbling. This class focuses on floor gymnastic tricks, flexibility and upper-body strength. The classes will include forward rolls, cartwheels, and advances to aerials and back tucks. These skills transfer easily to such activities as cheerleading and gymnastics.  Great addition to a well rounded dance schedule.  Levels beginning through advance.  Must be 7 year and older and must have instructors approval.

BALLROOM:  “Ballroom dance” refers most often to the ten dances of International Ballroom (or Standard) and International Latin, though the term is also often used interchangeably with the five International Ballroom dances.  SCDPAC offers ballroom classes for the beginner through advance.  Must be 7 years or older.
